I am running my airline out of my front crossmember and I dont really know where to drill a hole at to run it through. I have a 4 inch Z with plates on the top. If anyone could help it is very appreciated.

I just opened up a smaller pre-existing hole on the pass side of the notched factory style c.member in the truck.

The hole faced the rear of the truck. The drivers side airline was routed through the center of the c.member to keep it out of harms way & exited w/the pass side airline. To protect the airline where it passed through, I slid a piece of rubber hose over the lines & pushed it through the hole until it was centered. I then threaded some stainless nuts down over each end to keep the hose from popping out (cheap & I already had the hardware from another installation).

I generally do something similar to Scoti and drill a hole in the upper spring pocket faceing the rear of the truck I found some cool grommets that fit snugly around 1/2" DOT line and take just a slightly larger hole to be drilled. Then I secure the line to the frame on the outside as I run it back to the valves.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures. This is what I did. Went to fastenal and purchase some bulkhead fittings. This away there were no rubbing issues at all. They come in a variety of sizes and are easy to install and use.

the bulkhead connectors are a neat idea, but keep in mind the more connection an airline has the more places there are for leaks.

I agree..... especially in 'hard to access' areas. It makes it that much more difficult to trace possible leaks. Bulkhead fittings do make for a clean install for the cost though.

I do not know if these fittings are DOT approved. I do know I use them all the time on our dump trucks and tractors and have never had a failure with them in 7 years. That is a good question though. I do know that my tubing is DOT approved. From my experience if you have the tubing cut square it minimizes your chances of having leaks. I will have to do some research down and see if I can find the answer to your question. Thanks

I know guys will use non DOT stuff w/o issue. I'm just always weary that I'll be the one guy not having that sleeve in the fittings & it will be an issue. We call it 'Scot-luck'

I just went thru this same problem and ended up using 1" male PVC connectors w/ lock nuts. They are made for electrical conduits and if you can put wire thru it should work w/ the line (my thinking anyway). They are smooth and open on the inside......drilled my holes so there was just a slight curve to the 90* fitting on the bag for the line to make. It was easy to hook up as the line will slide thru no problem.... cost about 2 bucks.
