drip edge sealing
I need to re-seal the cab because the sealant at the drip edge is cracked and falling out. Should I use seam sealer or something else?
Which one looks like the one anyone has used for this spot? http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...be6DTWTJQPBBgl Thanks! Frank

Re: drip edge sealing
Go for the 3m Automix #8308, it's very good stuff, but you do need a special gun. There is also a self leveling version that might be good for this.

Yes the 3M automix is the only way to go, it is what all of the body shops around here use. It won't shrink or crack either.

Re: drip edge sealing
Ok maybe this will help.
![]() Most every store that carries 3M will use the number at the right hand corner. So the Heavy bodied sealer is 3M #08308 The self leveling is 3M #08307 And the applicator gun is 3M #08571. Now these products are not cheap, but they are the best out there. The seam sealers are around $35.00 a tube and the applicator gun is around $55.00, kinda pricey but if you look at it the way I did it's a heck of alot cheaper than having rust cut out and new panels welded in!!! These products were recommended by a buddy of mine that has an autobody shop this is all they ever use and have for the past 10 yrs, I have seen some of the cars and trucks that they have done years ago and it still looks the same as when they put it on.

Re: drip edge sealing
Try ebay. I just bought the seam sealer for $26 each, and the gun for $49.

Re: drip edge sealing
Digging up an old thread, but does anyone have a cheaper way to do this for a truck that will be sold. Mine needs to be done, but I can't justify a $90 cost on this. Anyone in the Northwest have this gun?

Re: drip edge sealing
Yep!That stuff is not the "only" way to go.I used another 3M product that I got at my Napa store the goes right into a normal caulk gun,is a fraction of the cost, and has been holding up just fine.It does what it was made to do and that`s all I wanted.f someone has had a bad experience I`d like to know. But,it seams* ok so far. It`s 3M Flexiclear Body Seam Sealer part #08405.
*pun intended

Re: drip edge sealing
My son uses the black windshield sealer that is in a tube and applies it with a caulking gun.
It is paintable and seems to work out ok so far. Danny

Re: drip edge sealing
i just used the standard drip or seam sealer in the regular calking gun. cost $8.00 to $10.00. use gloves to finger fit to my liking - let dry prime & paint:

Re: drip edge sealing
I'll add 3m ultrapro urethane to the list. Really good stuff and reasonable price. It should be used with a special gun too but I just taped of everything real good, 2" tape minimum, and poked a small hole in the foil pack and spread it with my finger. Worked great but man is it sticky.

Re: drip edge sealing
I havent tried it yet. But the local auto paint store sold me a 3m product called Drip Check. It says on it that its made for this exact purpose. Comes in a regular squeeze tube for about $15.

I had problems with this in the drip rail area for year's , the eastwood company sell's a sealer it is black when you put it on it's single stage and can be sanded and painted after 24 hour's it is the best I have ever used and the best I remember it was cheap too ,,,,,
