What would be better plastic or aluminum?

I just need something to get rid of original tank inside bed.

I'm leaning towards the plastic since its more in my budget just wanted to see if it would be good enough?

Summit sells some nice aluminum ones and they are not too expensive. Plus you can get them natural or in a couple of different colors -you could always polish one if you wanted to go fancy. My vote is for an aluminum one!

I am also planning on a fuel cell in my 79 k35. Plastic or aluminum will work for me but have a slightly different question.
Is there any problem with state inspections for fuel cells. I am in New Jersey and them do emission inspections before I install a fuel cell just wondering if anyone had any problems with inspections

I too have the same questions about the fuels cells. Any recomendations on what size would fit best for a shortbed?

May I suggest that you contact Transfer Flow, Inc. in Chico, CA. They make outstanding fuel tanks. My Big 10 came with one factory 16.5 gallon saddle tank. With a 454, that didn't get me very far before I was riding on fumes. I opted for a 26.5 gallon tank that uses the factory fill and sits between the frame in place of the spare tire. That has been a blessing!

I am running a 16 gallon 'cell underneath my bed...same size tank as the stock one the truck came with.

If I could do it all over again, and money was no object, I might use an aluminum one. But to be honest, since this 'cell is underneath the bed, I am very happy with it and don't plan to change it out.

The problem with plastic fuel cells is they need to be mounted so they are not exposed to direct sunlight/heat. If hey are simply bolted to the top of the bed, they will warp and look like crap over time.

Go for the aluminum!

I would be worried that the plastic would warp because to the expanding and contracting of gas.

I don't think that will cause it, it usually the heat and direct exposure to sunlight that causes them to warp.

That looks like a good tank. Comes with a 90 ohm sending unit and it is plumbed for AN fittings. With the dimensions being only 24" x 20", there will probably be no frame mods necessary.

Here in the great state of Kansas, a law was passed sometime ago banning the filling of plastic gas cans at the gas stations. Is that censorship? HAHA
