Speedometer ?

Ok engine is in and everything is up and running, except Speedometer.

It worked fine the day I drove it in the shop. Now driving it home and it's dead nothing at all. So replaced the speedometer head with one that I had. Still Nothing. I replpaced the cable 6 months ago. But the speedometer in the truck would occasionally jump and make a strange sound. Figured that it was a gear issue in the speedo head, So i had on in case it crapped out entirely. So put the on hand speedo head in and it's dead too. Thought I got a bad speedometer head. So I replaced it again. Still Nothing. Everything turns by hand and works. I guess I need some simple Ideas. can't believe it's a cable issue it's new. Speedo gear maybe... THoughts ideas....

Re: Speedometer ?

Disconnect the cable from the trans and chuck that end of the cable into a variable speed drill. If the speedo works when the drill is turning, you'll know the cable & speedo are good -- and you're not getting any output from the trans gear.
