My latest time waster

I snagged a half-running 1969 GMC stepside shortbed this week, and I finally got it pushed under the carport to get to work on it.

This is my first GMC, though, so I'm having some trouble finding engine codes. The one on the pad says F0115VB. VB isn't listed in the LMC guide I usually use. The funny thing is the valve cover says Chevrolet on it. I have no idea if that's the way they all were or if I've got an engine swap on my hands.

There's also an enormous casting number just down from that: 3851659.

Any help out there?

Unfortunately, that's all I got - the glovebox was removed sometime in the past, so I don't have the nice little code sheet.

Can't go wrong with a short step and for some reason the picture isn't showing up. I know there are some guys on here who can help you with the numbers, just got to wait for them to show up.

My picture's over in Flickr. Don't know why it's not posting. Guess I'll see about that.

I can guarantee (well, 99.9%) that this is not a 350.

Re: My latest time waster

Excellent, thanks, John. I had pretty much just gone ahead and assumed it was a 250.

Now to figure out if I want to rebuild the Rochester 2-barrel or put a new one on it. Never done one before, so I might just give it a shot and see how bad I can screw it up.

It's got a nice Clifford 6=8 intake manifold on it, too, which I've just been reading up on.

Re: My latest time waster

i love the sexy short stepside trucks. That 292 probably isn't original, they were painted that shade of blue later like 75 or so.
Either way, it's a cool truck.
