Little help here please..

O.k. so things in life are kinda down at the house hold right now so I figured that I would spend time in the shop and on this great board to pass the time and keep my mind busy. So I decided to work on some projects in the shop that I have had on a list for ever to get done and Im on to cleaning the air cleaner for my 350. I bought the air cleaner from summit and it recomends the k@n air cleaner stuff do I really have to spend that kind of money on a kit(money which I dont have) or is there a backyard low buck approach to doing this? Thanks in advance for any and all input.

a ten dollar fram filter from wallmart when it gets dirty just buy a new one

I agree, cleaning an air filter just sounds stupid to me. spend ~$20 on a cleaning kit. loose use of truck for a day or longer while it dries. and it is only needed at high RPMs. single use ones are the way to go.

I have a K&N filter in my DD, seems like my sons used all the supplies up, so I used spray gunk. Don't know if it has any ill effects on my filter, but I'll let you know in about 2,000 miles. Oil it up with any lt. oil, I'm guessing

Screamin eagle and 68 c 15 this air cleaner is on my off road mud/dusty trail truck I would have to buy a new air cleaner everytime I took it out. At 8 to 10 bucks everytime plus gas 60 to 100 bucks and food 30 bucks a weekend of fun adds up so thats why I am useing a reusable filter. Thanks for the suggestion though

I've had K&N filters on my quads and my son's Dart. Any kind of soap or cleaner seems to work fine. I use compresssed air gently to speed up drying. The K&N oil is a little spendy, but it is very convenient and one can has lasted me years. They only need a light coating of oil. You guys get much rain up there?

I that case I 'm with jaros44sr above. But I don't think the K+N is really designed for maximum filtration efficiency,the emphasis seems to be on high-performance high RPM flow.
In that environment (dusty dirt roads) an old oil-bath unit would be the best,and cheapest to maintain.

We are starting to get lots of rain so that means there will be plenty of 5500 to 6000 rpm pulls for the play toy.

Cool, after I finish patching the floor in the Wife's '63, we're going to sling some mud with the quads.

Rinse it out with soapy water (dawn or such). The filter oil is a light oil, in a pinch WD40 would work. I used a product called tri flow on my 2000 truck and have had no ill effects and the is with mass air directly down stream.
