Dana 44 carriers, all same?

I blew out the carrier in my front axle. Question is are all dana 44 carriers the same? I know mine is 30 spline but I'm planning on hitting some yards for a carrier. Could I use the carrier from a ford or dodge if I come across one?
What are the differences, if any.

Thanks

I think doge and Chevy are the same ford is not the same you also need to watch the gear ratio I think 4:10 and lower are a different carrier then 3:73 and higher.

the carriers should be the same. some fords use the high pinion front 44's, which have different gears, but the carrier itself should be the same.

Re: Dana 44 carriers, all same?

You have to watch out for ratio variations. The flange where the ring gear mounts is in a different location. 3.73 is the break
I wouldn't bet either way about the Ford hi-pinion units. The gears are definately different, but it is still a 44, so the carrier itself may be the same?

I sure seems like a lot of work to go through for a carrier though? Open carriers are not that expensive. Stripping an entire axle "in the yard"....both sides? does not sound like the way to get a part that you can buy new for about $60.
If you "blew-out" your original carrier, what makes you think that this is the only thing broken? It is rare to kill a part like that and have no collateral damage. Gears, bearings, case???...all are suspect.

You may be ahead of the game by getting an entire housing.

Re: Dana 44 carriers, all same?

Thanks guys. I know about where the change is at the 3:73 changing point. I was planning on getting an entire axle if I could. I was just wondering about the possible differences if I came across a different truck (make). I have inspected and the ring and pinion are missing teath so there is more damage than just the carrier. The cross pin retaining bolt broke and the cross pin slid out and busted in 3 spots breaking gears and the housing. I was pulling a sled at the local compitition under full throtel when it poped. I need a 60!

Re: Dana 44 carriers, all same?

You can use a carrier and gears from a GM, Jeep, Dodge, International, Studebaker, some Fords (not sure about the high pinion ones) , the only thing that really changed are some in the early 60's used 10 spline side gears, other than that pretty much everything interchanges. If you are looking for a complete axle, all Chevrolet up to about 78/79 are a direct bolt in, although they did change to a 10 bolt in the late 70's.. and around 77 they changed the knuckle design to a "non flat top" (that only matters if you are want crossover steering)..
If you have difficulty finding anything in the bone yards up there feel free to PM me and I can steer you to some decent yards around here.
