picked up a couple of tachs at a swap meet...

Gave $30 for the pair....

now to see how well they can be fit into the cluster...

both are 3 3/8" diameter.

I found camaro clusters, but the tachs were larger....

Re: picked up a couple of tachs at a swap meet...

yeah. I think the autometer one should work just fine. the sunTune one however is pretty large (backside) so I'm not sure if it would fit with the printed circut sheet.... I have a test cluster to work with too from Wrench n' Go

If that is permanent marker on there take a Dry Erase marker and scribble over it good and it will take it off.

this is how I ended up doing mine. it's a near perfect fit sliding in...

I swapped out the ammeter with a volt meter from a mid 70's chevy, and I added the analog clock from the same chevy truck in place of the small blank hole on the right....

all mods/cuts were fitted on my spare cluster, now I just need to swap all the modded pieces and gauges into the '72 cluster....

I'll get pics of all when I actually put them into the 72 cluster....

for the Suntune tach, I cut the main rear plate big enough to let it slide through, but it didn't reach that far. probably only needed about a quarter size hole.

Re: picked up a couple of tachs at a swap meet...

and whatever the lense is made out of, it gives off some noxious fumes when melting.... I cut out the original "blank" lense area, which ended up with the whole lense plate in 2 pieces, but worked out good....

I tried a scroll saw to help trim out the lense area, it cut really well, but ended up actually melting the plastic, and as I kept cutting, the cut "welded" itself back together a wider blade might have helped... ended up just using a dremel to finish what it had started.....
