Engine Removal Advice Needed
I will be removing my engine for detailing this fall/winter. My core support, corner braces, battery box, etc. also need detailing. Is powder-coating the way to go on these pieces as well as accessory brackets? Has anyone had great results with exhaust manifold appearance restoration? Is there anything I should consider doing while I have things removed/apart? The engine is a stock 402 that doesn't leak anything and seems to run very good (not as powerful as I would like).

I have seen some of the factory exhasut manifolds done with teh coating from Eastwood. It looked great and was standing up real well. It does not change color or flake off. If it was me, I would powder coat everything that I could, vice painting it. The coating lasts longer and maintains a glossy finish when desired. I know of a guy that resotred his old Buick Wildcat by having all of the engine parts powder coated and it is an outstanding looking engine.

But I don't think you'd powder-coat the manifolds, would you? The stuff melts at 400-degrees, and you wouldn't want the coating to wind up on your floor, streets and elsewhere.
The Eastwood, as well as other hi-temp paints, should be considered....unless you wanna spend the big bucks and have the coated with ceramics.

I powdercoated all of that stuff, and the intake manifold. I used POR 15's high temp paint for the exhaust manifolds, and it has held up pretty well.

POR 15 is the way to go....especially on the exhaust manifolds (actually, it is POR 20 for the manifolds)

Eastwood on manifolds is crap it comes off. Use the POR it works. Powder works great for brackets, all tin and the intake. A side note on the POR, I used it on a cheapy set of flowtech headers I had on a sb after the stock paint burnt off and it is still there.

There are companies that have a 1200 degree powder coating for headers. It is more like a dirt bike's exhaust coating.

By the way you have a really nice stock truck. My kind of truck. From what i have seen what parts and pieces that you want for your truck. I think you are going with the stock oem look. I do not know if powder coat is available in a egg shell look. I usually paint under hood, core support and inner fenders a egg shell black. It is close to OEM. I have a lot of people ask me what color it is. I like a gloss black on a more custom truck. Since you are going to paint core support. I would probably pull complete front clip. It would make engine in and out much easier. Bag and tag. PICS,PICS,PICS Hope this helps.

The powder is available in the OE Satin black.I plan on powder coating everything I can.

Manifolds - sand blast, wipe down with acetone, paint with Eastwood manifold paint (follow directions..). Looks great and so far it's still on.
