steering wheel shaft?
has anyone shortened the coupler or rag joint shaft on the steering wheel column? I have a stock column w/o tilt, I think it sticks out to much in the cab.I'd like to shorten the coupler shaft and bring the steering wheel closer to the dash board. does anyone know if this is safe or am I wasting my time? Thanks

Re: steering wheel shaft?
What column do you have? is it a solid shaft or does it have a slip joint.
i haven't done it yet, but I plan doing exactly what you are describing with our '66. it has a solid shaft. probably have to modify or fab a different mounting bracket though but as it has been stated on here before "it is only metal"

Re: steering wheel shaft?
knock the plastic rivets out and then collapse the shaft ... thats how the guys shorten the van tilts to fit in the trucks.
