Was a steering stabilizer...
standard factory issue, was it a factory or dealer option, or has almost everyone added one aftermarket?
If factory, what size/color was it? I'm replacing the dented Rancho on my K5 and would like to duplicate the factory color if there is one. If not, I'll paint it black. I'm guessing I want one on there. It's already kinda squirelly above 50 with the short wheel base. Although, I just tightened up the steering box and haven't driven it yet to see if it makes a difference. Anyone driven a K5 without a stabilizer - is it even more a handfull at speed? Sorry for the ramble....

Re: Was a steering stabilizer...
I believe they had them factory and they were white, but I just looked at all the brochures posted at http://brochures.slosh.com/ and I don't see any in the pictures.

Re: Was a steering stabilizer...
Mine has one that I kinda thought was factory but never really knew for sure. It is off at the moment but I still have it in the garage. It doesn't have much paint left on it but it looks like it was black at one time.

Re: Was a steering stabilizer...
All right, I just ran out to the garage and looked at mine. I'm pretty sure it's stock since most everything on the truck is stock, and it's black like all the suspension and steering.

Re: Was a steering stabilizer...
Walked in and bought one at my local Napa some years back, had it on the shelf even.
Pretty certain they were factory installed in 72. < Tim says so... Last edited by vtblazer; 10-08-2008 at 09:05 AM. |

Re: Was a steering stabilizer...
GM started using the steering stabilizers in`72 as standard equipment.I believe they were blue,IIRC.`71 and earlier axles don`t have a mount. They were an aftermarket accessory before that.HECO (Heckothorn) was the one to get back then. They were yellow.
