brake pedal mounting bracket removal - easy?
I'm prepping my 1970 c10 for a brake booster and new master cylinder for a frt disc brk conversion. When I removed the master cylinder I was able to see that there was some damage around the brake rod opening. When I looked from under the dash i saw that the tabs with the 4 studs that go through the firewall were all bent and damaged making the 2 top ones misaligned and not extending straight out. I could do a much better job of straightening the things and putting new studs or bolts in place for attaching the booster bracket if I were to remove it. Is that possible without having to weld it back in place? I have no idea how this damage might have occurred- something definitely strange given there is not visible damage elsewhere on the firewall. It's all localized around the brake rod hole.
Thanks. |

Re: brake pedal mounting bracket removal - easy?
If just the bolts are bent, try a close fitting piece of pipe over them - something with length to give you leverage - maybe wrap the threads with tape to protect them. You could also run a nut down the bolt before bending them back - after bending, you can take the nut off, cleaning the threads up instead of trying to get one started afterwards. Pics might help us see what the issue is too.

Re: brake pedal mounting bracket removal - easy?
Once you get everything of the front master cyl., brake booster, the pedals will come right out through the cab. You could just replace or repair them. If this is what your asking.

Re: brake pedal mounting bracket removal - easy?
i needed to remove steering column so once that was out the pedal mount bracket came out with just three bolts. easy. I did have an epiphany about the possible cause. I recall the previous owner commenting that at one time he thought it was a 3 on the tree, so evidently they replaced the pedal bracket, but they did a horrible job of putting one back in. And this is after I straightened it as best I could.
