Do you guy's think my '54 body (shortbed) would fit on a '92 shortbed frame? I can get a '92 chassis very cheap, and was just curious. Thanks

My guess is the 92 would be too wide. And that would be just the start of a fabricating nightmare.

Got a tape measure and some serious time to do measurements?
I am actually thinking of doing the same thing. Right now I am ripping the motor out of a 91 to put in my 93 and have taken the front clip off also. I plan to set my 53 front clip on the 91 and do some measuring over the next couple weeks.
Let me know what you come up with if you beat me to it.

I think he wants to put the 53 clip on the 91 frame just for mock up to see if the 53 will work on the 91 chassis........At least I hope thats all he's doing....

But then again if he really wants to do all the body work to put the 53 clip on the 91 cab,,,,,,,it's his truck what ever trips his trigger. I can personally think of worse things

I was thinking about building a truck that would be used to pull the RV. Since I am pretty much dead set against driving anything new, I was thinking about using a 88-98 3/4 ton frame, suspension and drivetrain with a 47-53 body. Since I am ripping apart a 91 up to the cab anyway, I was going to just set the 53 front clip on it to see what the fit would be like. The truck in my signiture is in pieces anyway so it will only take a Saturday morning to do a mock up. If the front clip can not be set on the frame around the motor and look reasonable the project will be shut down right there. If it fits okay then a couple more hours will see a mock up of the cab also. I know that there will be severe modifications at the cab if the project keeps going but a guy's got to have a hobby and dreams right?

I have a friend in ORegon that is putting 55 2nd-59 cabs and front clips on 82ish dually 4wd frames and using alcoa wheels. Frame width is not a factor because he wants the cabs to sit on top of the frame, the rear mounts sit on a piece of 2" tube spanning across the top rails. I could see a problem with a 2wd that wanted to be lowered. Wasn't there a thread here about someone that did that and was regretting not channeling the body lower over the frame???

Here is some pictures from today.
Picture of the firewall of a 53 and a 91 4x4.
And then pictures of the 53 sitting about 6" above the 91 frame with the front of the rust Old Navy Cab sitting on top of the tranny. The rust is exactly why I hauled another truck home today for the cab. But anyway the answer to your question is that the frame is wider than a 50s frame but the cab will sit outside of it. Unfortunately, there is no way that the firewall of a 47-54 cab will work on this set up unless you cut it out and weld in the 91 firewall. That is exactly what I am going to do to this junk Old Navy cab as part of my mock up before I start cutting my new cab up. But first that box comes off the 91 and a mock up of the box is in order. I will update you in November as other priorities will be getting in the way.
