Anyone running Magnaflow mufflers. Feedback?

Looking to purchase some Magnaflow mufflers for my 72 swb, 350ci truck. I'm looking to achieve a throaty deep sound, but not too loud during highway speed. I'm considering Flowmasters 40s but I'm hearing they're pretty loud all the time. Anyone using magnaflows...and if so how's the sound. Model # too. THanks!

I had one on a built Datsun 4 banger LOL, it sounded decent for a 4 banger. I got told a couple times it sounded like a quite loping V8

Hey, that's a pretty cool vid! Can you tell me what length they are... 14s, 18's,24s, 30's? Are you running a small block or big?

I have MagnaFlow's on my 2002 (sorry only V6). The do make the ole 6 sound VERY good and it doesn't kill you in the cab for long runs.

My 2003 Dodge also had them and same thing. It sounded FINE outside, but wouldn't kill you on the inside, unless you stomp it, which I have a tendency to do.

Re: Anyone running Magnaflow mufflers. Feedback?

We have Magnaflows on the '56 Bel Air. We like them alot. they have a nice deep sound that isn't obnoxious. It's just enough to let you know that it is there and means business. We are running a 350/350 combo with an x pipe and dual exhaust, with 2 mufflers. I unfortunately don't know the part number. This will sound funny, but When we drive by at car shows we always hear "listen to that car, it sounds awesome". The funny thing it is always from the older folks. The younger folks don't usually pay much attention to the sound when idling by. Hope this helps.

I have them with an x pipe and it exits out the back. Nice low rumble driving around, even on the freeway but step on it and they roar.

Re: Anyone running Magnaflow mufflers. Feedback?

Ive got 2 and 1/2 inch header back duals with flowmaster 40 series mufflers. The pipes exit right in front of my rear tires. They sound great especially with the big cam I have in my 383. The noise is not to bad when idling, cruising or on the highway, however though when you open them up they can get loud. Persoally I don't think you can go wrong with flowmaster or magnaflow, I like them both I'm putting a magnaflow on my 87 jimmy. My buddy has magnaflows on his 70 buick la sabre and they sound wicked. One thing magnaflow has over flowmaster is warranty and the stainless steel case.

Re: Anyone running Magnaflow mufflers. Feedback?

I bought a 'lightly used' set of these http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/s...e=main&id=7717 magnaflows from Frenchblue72 to replace my decrepit old glasspacks. The difference is amazing and I love the sound now. Virtually stock 350 with ramhorns, and shorts lengths of pipe behind the mufflers, dumping ahead of the rear axle.

They are fairly quiet most of the time, with a nice V8 rumble -- a bit louder when you exercise the long pedal. At fast idle (such as when the choke is on) and in gear, there is a resonance that fills the cab. Not sure what it sounds like from the outside... it's OK for a brief time but I wouldn't want to listen to it all the time!

All things considered, I prefer the sound hands down VS Flowmasters.

Re: Anyone running Magnaflow mufflers. Feedback?

Magnaflow is a straight through design and Flowmaster not. Magnaflow has been used by the top engine builders to make the most horsepower. I use the Flowmasters with my 327 to keep bottom end torque. If you are making magnum horsepower or a 383 or larger, I would run the Magnaflow. I have heard both with all kinds of pipe exists and the two sound very close. I like mine on the side before the rear tires so I can hear them also. I really dislike the dump downs before the rear axle because it vibrates the bed too much and kicks up too much dust. My two cents worth.
