Bogging?
K, just bought a 79 chevy 4x4 with a 402. He said the fuel filter(glass one) likes to plug off every once in a while. Well I found that out quickly. Runs excellently until it plugs off or whatever is happening. I would pull over, take the filter off and clean it up quick and it would run for another 10 minutes. Anyway, what would cause it too plug off so fast? About every 10-15 minutes it happened. there's no air cleaner, which is another reason why I parked it at a buddys house, but that shouldn't have caused the bogging. It has an edelbrock carb(manual choke) and intake with two spacers. Oh yeah, has a hypertech street/strip hei in it. It only did it going up a hill. Pull over and put in park and it revved fine, so only under a load did it do it. thanks for any help.

Re: Bogging?
1st, get rid of that glass filter & put a different kind other than glass. Glass is dangerous !! Sounds like you have a lot of trash in the gas tank. That would cause the bogging & causing the filter to clog up.....

Re: Bogging?
There's no "load" on the engine.
It's just sitting there revving, not trying to move 1 1/2 + tons. And listen to 70GMCer. You'll be more than a little p.o.'ed if you break that filter and burn your truck to the ground. And forget about plastic filters, too. Steel is your friend.

Re: Bogging?
with my glass filter it wasn't that it broke, it was that the cheap end caps came loose and it wouldnt tighten up because the threads got messed up. it leaked for 2 miles all over the top of my engine, didn't start a fire but the overwhelming smell of gasoline, a melted fuse holder, and a couple discolored painted parts is all that happened. i got a metal fram one for a dollar more.
to answer your question, i'd say the rubber fuel lines may be coming apart on the inside and flowing upstream to the filter clogging it, or trash in the tank. Last edited by matthufham; 10-12-2008 at 07:43 PM. |
