2007 NBS GMC Sierra 4.8L block heater

Hey guys,
I'm going to be taking my truck up to Canada this Christmas for a two week vacation. It's a California truck so it doesn't have a block heater. It has the 4.8L V8 (which isn't too wimpy, btw). I'm assuming I can use the same heater as a 5.3L or 6.0L V8, right?

Any other tips I'll need for my trip up there? I'm going to run the stock wheels and tires that are on the truck. I should be OK cooling system-wise.. The truck has 14k miles on it right now so I'll just flush the coolant at the same time I do the heater.

I'm going to bring some wire ties in case I need to make a quick "cardboard" fix to the radiator. I'm originally Canadian but I haven't been back in 10 years so I'm a bit "weather rusty." Har har.

Any other tips?
Thanks,
Colin

Re: 2007 NBS GMC Sierra 4.8L block heater

Why a block heater? It should fire right up as long as the fuel is good and the batteries good. Mine lights off at -25 with no trouble. I have a block heater on the 5.3 and have never plugged it in. Run some gas antifreeze in it a couple of tanks before you head north, a good 10W30 oil change and quality gas, and you should be OK.

Now a diesel I could see - although the new ones will usually start down to where the fuel gels.

Are you heading up to the territories? If not I dont think the block heater is needed. I had a 02 Tahoe with the 4.8L and never used the block heater...
