Starting point for 60-66 Burb history/options/reading - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ive searched google and on here... anyone have any kick ass links to read up on the previous body style?

I have someone locally selling one for like 1k, and it looks like a sweet project, but I need to know more about what to look for in one and moreso what options and problems that will rule it out as a good project.

Ill try to get some pics this weekend.

I have to agree, the reflection of yours in the glass is pretty cool.
While i don't know much about the 60 - 66 trucks/burbs, that sucker looks SOLID. Usually the front fenders rot out where the C/10 badge is, and all around the headlights.
Imagine that thing slammed about 5 inches in back and 4 up front, 5 lug with 8 inch rallys, or some nice bling wheels...

Not running, probably needs a lot over underhood/suspension/brake work

I'm not in the market for one of these but if I was offered this for 1K I would jump all over it. Based on the pics you posted it looks worth it. Grab it get it running and triple your money if you don't want to keep it.

If the driver's side looks anything like the passanger side I'd be all over that for 1k. The rot above the windshield (if it is rot) is the biggest issue but I've seen much worse. My 64 also has solid rockers, doors, floors, etc but is starting to rust above the windshield too.

HEY, I'll chime in here it's a 60-63 and for a grand, I'll tow it home.. Heck in that shape I'd bring it home in a couple of truck loads..I agree with Friz, Window frame around windshield and also, don't be alarmed if you crawl under the body and the aft cab mounts look like swiss cheese, these are not reproduced and will have to be fabricated. Also because of the window design, look at the windshield posts, they have a tedancy to crack it's a rather easy fix. Floor pans at the toe board and allong the door channel where the wire run is.. have a tendancy to collect dirt and general crap and will rot out as well. Several ways to repair this area because it's generally covered by something you can mud. metal or glass it. Most extensive would be to replace the floor pan or most of it. But not necessary. It's a great Burb and well worth what ever you put into it.

PM me if you have any further questions. I have a 61 that is in the middle of some minor repairs, actually about everything that I've already mentioned. SO I know what your looking at... GOOD Luck... Now get it to the house... and get to work....

Here is a link to my Burb and you can see some of the places that we are talking about. Mine didn't have any rust in the windshield area but this too can be repaired. Enjoy it, mine has a in line 6 in it I don't recall what you said your had... any way you go it's a cool old truck...

Never the less, don't it make you wish that you live south west where these things just sit in yards and fields for years and look better that 3 year old truck in Ohio and Pennsylvania... I know I grew up just north of Pittsburgh...... Great Burb GET IT TO THE HOUSE....

ON second thought, fill it full of Shiner and Drive it to the house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spent 7 years in texas... the rust free (low rust) vehicles is one of the very few things I miss from that place. (couldn't stand the texas ego) I came real close to moving out west a few years ago.... so-cal is awesome, but not without it's problems.

On the rust/location subject, I grew up in California but I was surprised to find that "Rainy" Oregon actually has a lot of survivors and far less rust than I had expected. East of the Cascades is pretty dry high-desert which is where I found my Burb (still not the best example). It also helps that they don't salt the roads here.
