Re: Is the left side the driver side?

well it depends on which hand is your left hand?
also which angle your looking at the truck
is this a serious question?

Re: Is the left side the driver side?

No need to be smart asses about it, that's a legitimate question. I suppose it depends on which angle you look at the truck from the drivers view or looking from the front. More than likely he's asking this question because he plans on getting a replacement panel for his truck and doesn't want to screw it up and get one for the wrong side. If that's the case then yes, the left side is the drivers side so you would get a left side fender if you needed one for the drivers side.

Hope this helps,
Dylan

Re: Is the left side the driver side?

Great Job Dylan. You are 100% correct....All parts are ordered as if you are in the driver seat.... And really what is up with the smart asses or jack asses that when someone asks a question he is laughed at or flammed right of the bat......Makes people (such as myself) really not wanting to frequent the board as much....

It must be hard for you guys to walk around knowing everything.......

Breathe in, breathe out... relax. Maybe I'm just a cantankerous old geezer, but I was smiling as I read the replies -- and I bet gottwake has a sense of humor and got a bit of a chuckle too. I don't think anyone was flaming, just seemed like some good-natured ribbing.

Maybe some folks are just a bit on edge lately, I dunno....

Re: Is the left side the driver side?

I suppose so, buy the likeliness of that being so in his case is a lot less than your normal truck.

Re: Is the left side the driver side?

I thought the answers were on the smartass side, too.I think CDowns` answer was just his regular dry matter of fact.It does depend on which side the steering wheel is on.Yes we can assume he means the side that just about every vehicle on the road in the US is on.But,such a broad question does draw such answers. We could go around in circles on "Is the left side the driver side?" Where is the left side of a motorcycle? Not the side with the steering wheel in London "or" New York. It`s from the perspective of the operater.
I have read manuals that make it clear in the beginning that every directional reference made in the book will be made from the perspective of the driver seated in driving position, just to be clear. It`s like when I`m lost and someone is on the phone telling me just make a right onto the road I`m looking at and we haven`t established whether I`m heading out of town or back towards it.Wouldn`t it be a left going one of those ways?

A friend had his truck side-swiped and it took out his driver side. It`s a special truck right-hand drive.I had all the pieces he needed:bedside, door, and fender. So,I hauled them over there and left them for him to fix it.Isn`t that the left side?Get it?The side I left? The left side...Huh?Right?er...left?I hope that was was right side I left and not the left side I right.

Re: Is the left side the driver side?

I used to work in a tire shop when I was a kid. We quickly learned to use the terms drivers and passengers side. I can't count the number of times I overheard a customer say when looking at the car from the front and shaking their right finger at at the drivers side and saying I said the right side and then shaking a left finger at the pass side not the left side. It's a very legitimate question. I've seen really intelligent people make the mistake. For stupid people explain to them that the right side of the car is the same side that is on the right side of the lane they are in when they are driving forward down the street. It sounds condescending but I've had to resort to it.

Thumbs up Re: Is the left side the driver side?

It should always be from drivers perspective as you sit behind the steering wheel. And it doesn't matter if the wheel is on the opposite side left is still left!!!!
