Millermatic 175, for you welders?
Is this a good machine for work on our trucks and little around the shop items? I want to stay under $1000 but still be able to do a little welding on my frame and the pipe fence if needed. Saw this on ebay. Is it a good price? Thanks.

Its a good welder for light duty stuff. Ive used them before. I dont remember the duty cycle but I believe its around 25-30% which is fine for around the home shop. Its a good welder for sheetmetal work. Not so good for plate though as the penetration isnt fantastic . check with the local welding supply stores though. You can often make them an offer on slow moving welders . I picked up my lincoln 175 TIG welder for $1100 that way new in the box.

Assuming the 175 means 175 amps, that would be a nice welder for home.

Consisdering this unit comes with the cart and free shipping its a good price.....
You might want to inquire if this comes with all the equipment for attaching a gas cylinder....you'll be much happier using the gas, with much nicer looking results..... I bought a smaller 110 unit and have been very satisfied with it...... The cart is usually extra.....modified my cart to put a handle.......and working on a rack to coil the leads and accessories on.............

I have a Milermatic 250 in my garage and I dont even know how to weld. I "inherited" it when the company I work for shut down their manufacturing plant. I need to run some power out there and get to playing with it.

That is not a bad price. My local supplier has them for $662, so with shipping it is a decent deal. It should be equipped with hose and regulator so that you can go with shielding gas even though it comes with the flux core wire.
I would recommend the Millermatic 250 because of the duty cycle that you do with spot welding as most body repairs are made this way. Also, sooner or later you will want to weld a heavy piece of metal. Jim |

Found this site about 40-50 bucks cheaper than anyone else. I think all these machines come new with everything except bottle, and I have a 7" X 17.5" bottle, just needs to be filled.
