Re: M&H front lighting wiring harness w/ alt conversion

Before doing that, what is the possibility of getting a longer bolt, same thread/pitch and using a spacer to enable you in installing it to one of the existing bolts? It may be that cutting off a portion of the clamp is possible, too. Clearly, to me, the difference in the way the alternator assembles is the reason the clamp does not work as intended in the original configuration. A little modification of what you have (the clamp) is better (to me) than re-configuring the alternator. If you do that, and you have to replace that alternator, you'll have it to do again. Just modify the clamp and make it work with what you have and you'll be good to go with replacement units.

Re: M&H front lighting wiring harness w/ alt conversion

ChevLoRay,

Thanks for your comment. I think you're right and I'll just have to get a longer alternator housing bolt and build a spacer to mount the bracket. I guess I just assumed that M & H had this all factored in when they designed the harness with the internal regulator wiring modifications and the bracket they supply was intended to mount in a specific location on an internally regulated alternator. It's obvious to me now that the original regulator has an entirely different housing design and rear configuration. If I come up with some "slick" way to do this I'll be sure and post it for all. Thanks again!

Look, you shouldn't have to open the alternator case. Just hack off the last half inch of the ground bracket and forget about it.
I'm surprised that there isn't some crevice the angle end falls into, but if not it's no big thing.

68OrangeSunshine,

I'm not going to open up the case. I'll figure out a way to mount the bracket even of it means cutting or modifying it somehow. I'll post a pic when I get it done. Thanks again!

To all,

I went ahead and modified the ground bracket to attached to the newer style alternator w/ internal regulator. Below are some pictures of what I did. Let me know what you think and thanks again, everyone, for your comments.

Re: M&H front lighting wiring harness w/ alt conversion

I gonna try and post some pix. Shots of real Delcotrons in actual running trucks.

One view from under the 4Bbl carb, on an L6 [stock wiring, with HELP reapair bits as necessary...] ('68-C/10).

Other view is on '71 GMC w/ V8 and M&H product harness.

Another shot of the 292, from side.

.
Guess I'll have to hotsplice the pix off the digiccam again>
Dang this newfangled X#$%$^^

[Edit: upload failed. I'll try later.]
