coil spring question

hey guys im thinking about cutting the front coils to lower the 84 silverado a little. its already got dropped leafs out back so i want the front down too. not sure how much to do, thinking maybe 3/4 of a coil? i want 2-3 inches in the front. i have the stockk tires and rally's on now, 235/75/15. Will they rub at all? will the bump stops hit? and most importantly, will the ride be unbearable because of the stiff suspension, or is it not too bad? thanks

here is a picture

tires should clear but its been my experiance that if you cut too much it becomes bouncy. i bought 3 inch drops springs from sport truck direct for $99 they ride great so just something to think about.

Re: coil spring question

quick question. just want to make sure im doing this right. i found this picture of front coil springs. I cut a coil off of the bottom right? I put the yellow lines on the spring to show where i think i would cut, is this right? Also, Wont the spring fit differently because of how it is shape on the bottom, or does it matter?

Re: coil spring question

the bottom of my front fenders are 31.5 inches from the ground and the rears are 29.5. I would like to be in the area of 28.5 inches in the front. Just not sure about which end to cut on the spring and if i should go 1 coil or 1.25 coils

Re: coil spring question

I have 2 cut coils on the front of my 83, and yes cut the coils on the bottom, each coil will give you 2" of drop

Re: coil spring question

i just finished cutting and putting all back together, took about 2 hours. i cut 1 coil exactly on each. i got about a 2.25 inch drop. im very happy with it and the best part is, smooth ride!!! so, i now have a 2.25 drop in front, and a 4 inch drop in the rear. Now, all i need are some front drop spindles and im all set. Thanks for the help guys i will post some picture later

Re: coil spring question

i cut one coil of my front coils on my '80. now it constantly hits the bump stops. It could use new shocks and a sway bar though
need to get busy and bag the front...
