Need rear axle help
Hi all,
I have a 72 Chevy 3/4 ton with the full floating rear axle. The threads that the bearing retainer nut threads on to is messed up on the end. I got the old nuts off by breaking them, and I filed down the end as much as I dared but I cannot get the new nut started on. Is it possible to rethread that or am I looking at getting a new axle? Re: Need rear axle help
Go to a "good" hardware store & get a "thread chaser."

Re: Need rear axle help
Only one side is bad, and as large as the axle shaft housing is I don't know where to get a rethreader. It looks like maybe standard iron pipe thread?
