door skin progress

I didn't think of this until today... What do I use to replace the caulk or whatever it is along the seam of the door skin? I saw seam sealer in a caulk tube type thing in Eastwood... is that all it is? I rolled one of the lips all the way this evening. I did both sides for awhile ...then when I knew it wasn't moving anymore I did the one side. I started at the top of the door and worked towards the bottom. after I bent it over with the hammer using my hand as backup. I used a pair of channel locks with a small thin piece of wood to protect the outside to crimp it the rest of the way. I think it looks very good. My back hurts from bending over to work upside down... but I didn't want to put the new skin down on my makeshift work stand... anyway enough rambling here's the pics...

Looks good, just wish I was that far. Ijust got the frame completely stripped down today, ready for the sand, maybe when I get the cash reserve built up.

It looks like it turned out great! 3M makes a Heavy Drip Check sealer that has almost no shrinkage at all, It comes in a blue box and is in a tube kind of like toothpaste.I used it on my drip rail and was very satisfied with how it turned out. Also what kind of welder are you using? And with what kind of wire?

I've used a 3M product ina caulking type tube called Fast'nFirm. Works good and remains pliable yet sets up firm just like the name of it. By the way, your door looks great.

Thanks, where I can find that? Automotive Paint supplier? I have a Lincoln "Handy Mig" I think it's their least expensive mig welder. Came with the regulator setup to use gas shielded. I choked when I saw the price of the bottles at the welding supply... so I have been using .035" flux core wire. Actually I have .030" in it right now, I was trying to see if I caused less damage with smaller wire. I experimented with the settings and techniques until I found something i could live with.

Yeah, most parts stores that handle paints or 3M products have it. I got mine from a Crow Burlingame, Like 6 or 7 bucks or so. Like I said I am very satisfied with it, I bought some from Autozone, but I don' remember the name of it, only that it was in a black and white caulking tube, It Sucked very bad, it is real bad about shrinking and cracking! So I wound up removing it and using the 3M instead. Also they carry a Brush on type that is very good also, but it's kind of high 20.00 for a small can of it. Hope this helps!!

Well I finsihed her off tonight....I really am pleased with it...I'll caulk her up before i prime it...now to do the next one....

I like it... it was cheap... paid 270.00 or so, I think I probably will buy a better one when I wear this one out... I wish it was more adjustable... only 4 temp settings...low, fine and course...high,fine and course
