On emission codes, check the sensor under the battery. The famous emission leak is connected to the sensor and gas cap. I finally replaced my cap. No more problems.
As for updating your PCM, any 96 and later will accept some good updates. I had my PCM updated by www.wait4meperformance.com. Paid $86. I shipped the original PCM. I gained about 1 MPG in the city. The PCM was reprogrammed to lock the torque converter above 45 MPH. I don't know the gains on highway milage. I do know that at 80 MPH, the Jimmy easily pulled 20 MPG!!! I'm really curious about 70 MPH. |
