Correct Paint Finishes for Chassis & Engine Bay Components ??

I had this posted in "Paint & body" with no luck....Hoping someone can point me to this info.....

I'm looking for any information I can find on the correct paint finishes for a 1970 K-10...I'm doing a complete stock build and want to paint all the components on the chassis & engine bay the correct colors.....I've searched the archives but can't seem to locate any information about this....

Here is something similar for Camaro's....http://www.67z28.com/finishes.htm
Also found this "Restoration Color Chart" for 58-65 full size chevy's.... http://www.348-409.com/engine.html

Anything like this exist for our trucks?

Thanks, Dan

Re: Correct Paint Finishes for Chassis & Engine Bay Components ??

Hi Dan,
I posted a similar question once with no response...I used Eastwood and memory from previous retos for a guide. I think it is fairley correct for most GM's of the era.
I used spray gray, detail gray, chassis black, (semi gloss), underhood black, etc. try http://www.eastwoodco.com/
One tip is the power brake booster Delco Morraine was cadmium plated and Bendix boosters are black...I would like to get a list together some time for a reference for people who are doing stock restorations...Good luck and post some pictures of your progress..

I just save pictures of original stock trucks, this 72 had 16K miles...

Would be nice to see a list of paint colors and brands. I found that different brands of chevy orange engine paint can be very different...

Re: Correct Paint Finishes for Chassis & Engine Bay Components ??

Yea...I too have collected quite a few pics of original engine bays...but it's hard to determine what colors they actually are...

I'm surprised that this info. is not published anywhere....especially with the car show community, as correct component finishes are really important when being judged in "Original Class"

I wonder if the same basic colors and finishes apply to all 67-72 full size Chevy's....Probably be a lot easier to find that info.

If I don't locate anything maybe I will work on my own speadsheet for future reference for other guys doing original type builds....

Rustoleum #7777 is virtually identical to the stock eggshell finish.

I like to bead blast brackets, hinges etc. and paint them with GM Reconditioning Paint. It has the correct satin finish and is easy to use (just stir and pour into your cup- no mixing). No primer needed, just a one step process. You can get it at your dealer for about $35 a gallon.

Re: Correct Paint Finishes for Chassis & Engine Bay Components ??

You are right about carshow people worrying about finishes on CARS, most of the judges who look at these trucks have no idea what is correct for them. I went to a show several years ago and competed against a very nice truck in the stock class- power coated frame, chrome valve covers, incorrect type battery worm clamps on hoses etc. and all the judges could do was oh and ah over the frame and all of the powder. That is all fine, but it is not correct! Finish was incorrect but the truck scored higher because the judges did not have a clue, this was a national show by the way. I have some of the info you are asking for. PM me and I will get it together for you as well as some sources for pieces that will put you over the top as far as details for the engine compartment. Re: Correct Paint Finishes for Chassis & Engine Bay Components ??

I hope this pic will help with engine compartment for a K-10.....my truck was unmolested and I tried to duplicate everything correctly......there are three things that I know are incorrect......the intake should be orange, the metal upper rad. hose should be black, and the power booster should have a dark gray almost black color everything else should be correct......
