Re: Come check out the: Frame Finishes Thread

for my truck I didn't have any rust problems because the entire under side of the truck coverd in oil and grease, to clean the frame I used simple green degreaser, comet, wire brush, and red and green scotch brite pads, and for paint I used http://www.valsparglobal.com/val/resident/bps_imp.jsp
here some pics of the fire wall, I had some pics of the frame but they didn't turn out
before

after

this what it looks like 2 years later

Re: Come check out the: Frame Finishes Thread

I know I have used the Eastwood Products (chassis black, rust encaplslater, rust converter) and have had very good success with them. They are very durable and have a good selection of finishes. My #1 choice would be to sandblast and powdercoat if you do not have a budget. That by far is the toughest most durable finish I have found but can become very expensive with vehicle frames and several parts. I have a Eastwood powdercoat system and an old oven for small parts. I also have a 12"x12" IR lamp that I have done several exhaust systems and motorcycle frames with and they have stayed looking new for years! I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend on your project? The Eastwood chassis kit I got to do my truck frame was enough to do my whole frame and was $120. Prep is just wirebrushing, cleaning and applying and I am very pleased with the results. Something else I have used and know others have, is the Rustoleum black textured paint in a spray can. This too seems to last a long time and is very durable and at 3-4 bucks from Home Depot it works great when money is tight. Hope this helps.

rustolium number 7777 is almost an exact match to the factory color.

Re: Come check out the: Frame Finishes Thread

Here is what my truck looks like now. I used eastwood's satin chassis black. Very pleased with how it came out.

Painting it at my buddies huge garage.

Back home at my tiny garage.
