How do i get it off the spline end?

I came to the same problem when i needed to get my PS assembly off, and ended up using a gear puller, worked pretty easy.

If you have an orielly auto parts store there they have a free loaner tool program. Just leave a deposit..

There is a tool/puller available at most auto supply stores, some parts houses have them for rent also.

The one pictured is specifically designed for pitman arm removal, but there are some more universal designed one's out there that could be used for other jobs also.

Hey, just noticed you are only in Sherwood. Are you ever in the Portland area running errands, if you have your steering gear removed off of your truck, then drop in/come by and I will remove the pitman for you?

I just went and bought a puller like in the picture, and it doesn't work. I clamped it on and tightened the sh*t out of it, even breakin out the cheater bar. Then I read the directions on the package and it said to hit the center pin with a hammer, so I tried that. Still no luck. Any ideas?

Put some penetrating oil on it and with the puller under tension hit the side of the pitman with a hammer and it should come off!!!

Marinade for a day in SiliKroil, then the puller and a BFH will work great.

like with all things, you can buy a WAL-MART brand puller, or a SNAP ON PULLER. Some of those pitman arms can be a bugger. A good puller, and a BFH, will usually get them off. Some of the steering boxes are master splined ( meaning the pitman arm will only go on one way). I would make sure the truck is going straight ahead, and that the steering wheel is centered. pull the pitman arm, going slowly, and have the new one ready to put right back on. I don't remember what size socket it is, but put the arm on, and the nut and lock washer, and tighten the crap out of it and you will be fine.

You can get one at harbor freight also. It does not have to be a snap on top-of-the-line tool, as you are only going to use it once.
