ha timing I'm so stoopid
So first day back. The ole girl is still running like crap and I suspected the timing was off. So instead of doing what I should do and adjust it properly (after checking to see if it was right) I decide to have a go at tuning it by ear. CAUSE I"M SO SMART . Well need less to say I'm an idiot. Now it's really running like crap and I didn't even have the common sense to scratch on a mark so I new where I started. So who can help me out of this jam. -J

Re: ha timing I'm so stoopid
What is it your looking for? Timing marks on the ballancer or where the Dist. should be? I live in cruces as well maybe you could swing by and I could take a look at it or show you a few pictures.

Re: ha timing I'm so stoopid
no I'm taking it to the 4wd place in Chapparal I work over by them and they are going to help me with a little frame patch (steering box) and spring perch issue.

Re: ha timing I'm so stoopid
yeah but this happened before it was lifted. It has allready had a bad patch job on it. The fool who owned it before the fool that bought it (me) apparently thought he was Bo Duke and like to stunt jump the thing

Re: ha timing I'm so stoopid
im sure the timing is off for sure now but you may have other problems( ie week coil, bad cap and rotor, bad wires, plugs, vacuum and mechanical advance)
did you check?

Re: ha timing I'm so stoopid
great ok so I knocked the timing out but I have no timing tab. what now I mean there is literally no tab. SERIOUSLY PLEASE IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT I SHOULD DO? I caint adjust it without the tab. OK so I'm being dramatic i guess the appropriate question (afte More research) is what position should I put the tab in after I order it? Also do I measure the actual harmonic balancer or the pulley on the front to size the tab.

Re: ha timing I'm so stoopid
Hotrod I haven't checked yet it only did this after I messed with the HEI. I did not pull it just loosened it and turned a hair. -J

Re: ha timing I'm so stoopid
You should be able to get it timed well enough to drive by using your ear.As you look at the vaccuum advance on the distributor from the front,if you turn to your right you are advancing the timing.I advance as far as I can w/o pinging. It ay ping once you drive it (under load) and may need more adjusting. The slightest movement makes a big difference.Use small increments.

Re: ha timing I'm so stoopid
Tim just too be sure is that counter clockwise or clockwise turning. So in laymans terms you are saying turn the vacuum advance. So Counter Clockwise to advance.
