Why? What does this do? Does it need to be done to get the truck to lay frame? Anyone here do a step by step with pics thread? i think i have an idea. just want to se some shots

Yes it has to be done to lay frame. The front supension and crossmember hang below the frame. The Z raises it so the frame is the lowest point. Look through the suspension section to find pics. Here are a few of the Z i had on my 69. This one wasn't finished. I also put a plate on the inside of the frame after this pic was taken. The second shows how the steering needs to be modified.

Yep, 69 had it right. To lay it'll need to be atleast 2 and at max 4 inches. But you can throw down and go big on a dropmember to get it out of the way, but there aren't any other alternatives.

What about Zn the rear. Is there a max? Also if i Z the rear, then i should not need to c-notch it or build new back half right?

Back is a different story you will have to raise the bed floor or be gone with it and its simpler to put a big notch in. I look at it this way if your going to z the rear just cut it off and back half the truck its the same amount of work. Do a search in the suspension forum you'll find endless amount of info.

I z'd mine at first, and the distance you have to start at to clear the stock trailing arms is not worth it in my opinion. You have to start right behind the cab, I came up at a 45 degree angle with a new frame clip, and I wish I had just put in a notch with a new 4-link.

Dont forget you have to rebuild/modify the trailing arm crossmember!

It all depends on the builders goal. Z'n the factory rails can & does work well if you like the bags in the stock coil location. If it's planned well, it simplifies several things.

If you're going to move the bags though, you prob would be better off w/a different suspension or back-half it.
