Drastic changes going to be made

After much discussion(mostly with myself) I have decided to make my 82 SWB K10 a SWB C10. I have not decided which route I am going to go, it really depends on what I can find in the yard. I am really trying to locate a good 2wd swb frame to just swap everyhting over to it. I traded my old 2wd to get this 4wd and now I don't want or need a 4wd. I have put it in 4wd only once since I owned and that was just to check and make sure it worked. I am sure to have questions come up as I find out which route I am going to go. Will try and start the conversion around the 1st of the year and start gathering parts now. Should be fun and I will keep up the build thread when I start.

you might be wiser and money ahead in the long run to trade for a 2wd..but the conversion can be done...

Re: Drastic changes going to be made

There are no 2wd around here in decent shape for the same price. Everyone selling them is wanting to replace theirs with a smaller more fuel effecient vehicle.

Re: Drastic changes going to be made

DUDE THATS FUNNY CAUSE I ONCE HAD AN AWESOME C10 THEN SOLD IT CAUSE I FELT I NEEDED A 4X4. YAAAAA I DIDNT NEED IT. STILLL HAVE IT THOUGH. SO NOW IM PUTTING ALL THE BODY OFF THE K10 ONTO THE C10 FRAME. THE C10 IS ALSO A SHORTIE. I JUST GOT THE CAB ON LAST NIGHT AND AM GONNA START ON IT AS SOON AS THE SUN PEEKS IT HEAD. SO GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PROJECT. IT AINT AS BAD AS IT SOUNDS SO GO FOR IT BUD. GOOD LUCK AGAIN.

Re: Drastic changes going to be made

Here you go.
when i first got it:

How it sits now, I don't have alot of money in the body but I have alot of time and it is pretty straight and only has minor rust. That is why i just want to change bodies, that and the motor is a solid 350.

Re: Drastic changes going to be made

Does your 2wd donor need to be a swb? That guy who did the blazer swap used a 2wd lwb for his donor to end up with a 2wd Blazer. I could see the drive shaft being an issue, but seems like it would be OK other than that.

Re: Drastic changes going to be made

I don't want a LWB and I don't have the neccesary equipment to cut down a LWB frame to SWB dimensions.

Albatrossian I will shoot you a line or two.

I think he ment doing the 2wd swap like the blazer guy did using a LWB for the needed parts like: 2wd front suspension, rear suspension, transmission ect.

here is a link to that swap thread:

he was converting a 4x4 K5 to 2wd but I would think a lot of the stuff would be the same frame wise.

Re: Drastic changes going to be made

To bad you weren't closer to me in Arkansas. I got a solid 82 GMC swb with a nice 350/th350, and I am wanting to trade it for a 4x4.

I got it now, I read that thread already. I would rather just find a SWB frame so it would just be a body/drivetrain swap. all the grinding of the rivets seems like a pain in the ***. I will be able to make some money back on the drivetrain minus the motor. when it is all said and done. It really depends on what is out there when I am ready for a frame and what condition said frames are in.
