I typed a nice concise response, but deleted it

But how about this

USE THE PHONE TO TALK TO SOMEONE, a nice two way conversation,
oh you don't want to actually TALK to another person, so you text
oh you CAN'T (don't have the skills) have a conversation, so you text

And in 'theyammieguy)'s case actually talking would have solved a couple of problems. Not counting that the guy he was supposed to meet is an A hole, and the "I sent you a text" proves it.

We live in a society that communicates alot, hince we all have voices and we can't leave home with out a leash that allows us to communicate with the rest of society. Typing is not a step to the future, but sure is a good way to avoid actually having a conversation.

Re: they stood me up.

You missed the point entirely. I was pointing out that certain circumstances do not always permit one to use VERBAL conversation to communicate. Such as now, I am in the middle of a sales meeting where I can't "talk" therefore I am typing this response by way of my Blackberry.

I'm not saying a verbal conversation wouldn't have prevented a lot of confusion with the original posters situation, I totally agree. My disagreement is with your blanketed statement that anyone that uses texting on their phones are young punks. One shouldn't jump to conclusions about why people (regardless of age) choose to use certain forms of technology over another. That is closed minded and that too is a good way to avoid meaningful conversation.

Using your analogy, I could say "Old fart who won't use email or accept texts equals grumpy senior citizen which is waste of my time and money."

The real TRUTH of these posts are that stereotypes are a waste of time and energy. Wouldn't you agree?

Re: they stood me up.

Its like everything else.. yes in this case verbal communication MAY had helped.. but the guy lied via txt, what makes anyone think he would not lie via phone conversation.

The blanket statement about young punks and txt is just ignorance no matter how you look at it. I txt with my Mom who is 67 years old. She would probably be happy to be categorized with young punks again

I do take offense to saying someone who txts can not converse. Josh, myself, redneckgirl, bad6772, longhornman and several others txt each other daily. I suppose that because we choose this form of communication, we do not have the skills needed to hold a conversation in more conventional ways?

I hope you did not mean it that way. If you did it just says you are close minded and ignorant. I will assume you did not, things tend to come across wrong in posts at times.

That was not your question, see above.

Under certain circumstances, yes texting could be the only means of communicating
.

I'm not saying a verbal conversation wouldn't have prevented a lot of confusion with the original posters situation, I totally agree. My disagreement is with your blanketed statement that anyone that uses texting on their phones are young punks.Ok sorry about the blanket statement. I was just remembering all of the 'punks' I see driving down the street texting at the same time, the texting while I'm trying to run a business meeting, the texting during classes, the people sitting around face to face and texting someone not in front of them. Granted this texting is not being done by senior citizens or middle aged men and women, so maybe 'punk' is to harsh. One shouldn't jump to conclusions about why people (regardless of age) choose to use certain forms of technology over another. I'm not jumping, but a phone CALL is a great way of preventing alot of miss communication, hince where all of this started. Choose the form you would like, free country and all that, but effective communication is face to face (that's why you're in a meeting face to face, and people travel all over the world to meet face to face. The next best is a verbal conversation, which is why Alexander Bell invented the phone. That is closed minded and that too is a good way to avoid meaningful conversation.

Using your analogy, I could say "Old fart who won't use email or accept texts equals grumpy senior citizen which is waste of my time and money."
I'm not sure if you're calling me a "grumpy senior citizen' in which case I am wasting you time and money, I think...
The real TRUTH of these posts are that stereotypes are a waste of time and energy. Wouldn't you agree?
I didn't think the slang term 'punk' would envoke such an outcry, but it has been fun.
"punk' being used as a broad sweeping general term... I guess if the shoe fits, own it
.

I wonder if "old" punks like Johnny Rotten and Joey Ramone send text messages? Well, maybe not Joey, he is dead now.

I like my privacy and I don't like people, especially people I don't know, knowing where I live. I would, however, have him meet me halfway at a popular parking lot with lots of people around.

Re: they stood me up.

I would not deal with this cat anymore, plain and simple. Whether it be you meeting him, or him coming to your place, just forget about it, and move on to the next one. There is always a better deal just around the corner...young or old, this dude is a punk for not keeping his word. If he was serious, he would have apoligized and offered to pay for your wasted gas.

It's nothing like ebay. It's basically just an online classifieds.

Re: they stood me up.

I feel you on this man. I was searching for a 2 door 4wd tahoe 2 years ago. Found on one ebay for sale, and it said it was for sale locally as well. I figured since it was, he'd sell it outright.

Got ahold of him, said he'd sell it outright to me. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED HIM 3 TIMES, if he'd take a personal check once I got down there. He agreed on each time I asked him. And, I agreed on the price as long as it was as advertised.

Drove a little over 4 hours, one way down there with my girl....and the d bag wasnt home..and wouldnt asnwer his phone. We agreed on a time to meet, and he wasnt home. We got something to eat, and about 2 hours late he got ahold of me asking if I still wanted to see it.

I was pissed, but agreed since I drove clear down there. Truck was not as advertised, it was way more beat than the creative pictures he took.

Then, decided he woudnt sell the truck to me because I was gonna write him a check. Told me if I wanted it I should go home and win the ebay auction.

I was so incredibly angry, I felt like slashing the hoes tires on my way out, punching his girl in the face, and kicking his puppy. Didnt help I had a 4 hour trip home to stew about it.(made it home in roughly 3 hours though, lol)

Im sure most of us can relate to being screwed on some kinda auto deal in the past.

I'm glad you didn't. Next time post an RE to the person's original post to give other's a heads up on how difficult the person was to deal with and how the product is being misrepresented.

Re: they stood me up.

No, certainly not. Im always the guy that just walks away. But I do believe in karma, and hope he'll get his eventually.

It was on ebay, and there was nothing I could do. Since I didnt technically bid on it(sure wasnt giving that ahole my money), there wasnt anything I could do.
