Radiator

Are their any stock 4 core radiators that will fit in my 62 half ton's stock location? I dont mind doing any fabrication of mounts, just as long as the size fits. Thanks

Re: Radiator

Aside from an original style for the '60-'66 trucks, one from a '67-'69 Camaro or a '68-'72 Nova can work. There are a couple different sizes available, you'll want the shorter one for a small block. Although I don't know how easy it would be to get a 4 core one.

Since you're able to do a little fabricating, don't overlook the universal aluminum radiators from Summit. Several guys have been using them with good luck, and they're not too expensive. ChiefRocka did a write up when he installed his

Re: Radiator

I used the same radiator as Cheif and its worked well. Its a Summit piece. Its easy to install, affordable and keeps my truck cool idling in Phx 100+ degrees with no shroud. I use a mechanical fan, at the moment.

Re: Radiator

I think the core size is bigger so it may be a two core but equalls the mass of a four core, the summit one is what I used, very little fab work and looks good too.

Re: Radiator

Just a bit of info to help clear things up. Good Luck

The radiator people say.............

Copper Brass versus Aluminum

Example A copper brass 4 rows of 1/2" tubes and Example B aluminum 2 rows of 1" tubes.

Seen in example A is a copper brass core cross section using 1/2" tubes. Much of the cooling efficiency is lost because of the limited amount of tube-to-fin contact. Seen in example B is an aluminum core cross section using 1" tubes. Since the aluminum tube is a minimum of 1" the efficiency of tube-to-fin contact is much greater. In fact a two row 1" tube radiator has 40% greater tube-to-fin contact over a 4 row copper brass radiator (this can be seen in the examples above by comparison of the measurement B). Therefore the cooling efficiency is vastly improved over that of a copper brass core.

I couldn't copy the picture but here's the link.

Re: Radiator

I also used the summit aluminum radiator fits well and cools good. (SUM-380324) Thanks Chief..Was running hot before but not since installing it... I did have to take it to the welding shop that had a TIG. The lower radiator hose outlet angle needed to be changed. Just like Chiefs did.. Also the stock upper radiator mounting bracket was just shortended

(dont mind the messy engine and engine compartment that was before the engine rebuild )
