63 panhard bar
Hi all,
Im a long time reader of the site but this is my first post....so here I go. In the process of working up a 63 short fleet. I just got ahold of some nice donor parts from a 80 1/2 ton in which I got the whole front end for a complete brake and steering upgrade. Anyways, I am planning on bring the rear of the truck down 6in. using some of ECE lowered springs etc. However they are telling my that I can not go that low with my 63 cuz of the parhard bar set up. I guess the 65-72's are different. What gives? I understand the geometry problem with lowering. But they are saying that there super adjustable panhard bar still will not work with my 64. Can anyone point out and/or post some pics of the differences in these years for where the bar hooks to the frame and axle? Thanks for helpin the new guy out! |

Re: 63 panhard bar
Could it be the placement of the panhard bar's "frame mount"? I'm not sure what else would be different. I think I would bolt the Super Track Bar to ECE's trailing arm bracket and move the frame mount. Just a guess,...

Re: 63 panhard bar
lolife99, I have been going down your idea path as well. I just dont have a 65 and up to compare my 63 to in order to figure out where the big difference is on frame mount placement. But like you said I could just get the super trac bar kit, lower everything down to ride height, hook it up to the trailing arm side center everything and then find my placement to where I could "remount" on the frame. That could work right?

Re: 63 panhard bar
I think so. Not everything can be made "bolt on". But no reason why it wouldn't be possible. Keep us posted.

Re: 63 panhard bar
It's been a while but lets see....I believe the 64 rear has a different location at the axel for the panhard bar. There is a bracket welded to the right side tube rather than a boss on the pumpkin. It may be the same as the 63. Having said that, you may have to buy an adjustable panhard bar and fab your own mounting points. Thats what I did. Hope that helps. Doug

Re: 63 panhard bar
If that's true,... then it won't matter since ECE's Super Track Bar attaches to the right side trailing arm.

Re: 63 panhard bar
The frame mount for the panhard bar is different on the 63-64. As previously mentioned, you will need to modify/facricate/or replace the frame mount with a later-model one. The axle mount for the super-trac bar will bolt right up.

Re: 63 panhard bar
Here is a picture of the rearend in my 67. It is from a 63 or 64. My panhard bar from ECE is way short of reaching the frame mount.

Re: 63 panhard bar
Here's where ECE's Super Track Bar attaches.
