What does this number mean?

I noticed this number on the back wall of the cab next to the gas tank and was wondering what it means. You can also see where the number use to be on the underside of the hood. The inside of the cab and under the hood has never been repainted so this is a number from the factory I'm guessing. Anyone know what it means?

I don't know what those numbers mean, but mine and others have similar on firewall, etc. I think they were just inspection markers.

Re: What does this number mean?

My guess is that it was an assembly line number (maybe 37th truck that day?). My truck had two digit numbers (all the same) stamped on the tailgate, bed floor and wheel tubs. I was careful not to fill them when I painted it. I thought it was a pretty cool piece of originality.

I know it's not a parts yard or junkyard number because my grandfather bought this truck brand new and none of the body panels were replaced.

Re: What does this number mean?

Yep I got the #'s also on mine. Under the hood and on the firewall. My dad bought the truck new and nobody but he or I ever worked on it. I always assumed it was maybe a QC #...

Re: What does this number mean?

I think 37 is the stamping number, on my truck there was a 37 punched into the panle on the outside of the cab, (so between the cab and box) right in the midle
