Late model step side beds - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I can buy this late model 95 step side bed for $200.00 in great shape. But I have mixed feelings about late model beds on early 67-72 trucks as you tend to lose the classic look of the trucks. I already have a 68 short step side bed I can install. Will installing a late model bed decrease the the value of the truck? Which bed do you guys think looks better? I am really confused, please help!

I do not mind the look, and I am not planning on selling my truck when it is done so I do not care what others think about it, as long as I like it. If it wasnt so far to your place I would take either one off your hands.

I think that it is all in the eye of the beholder. I feel it's your truck and if you like the late model bed, then mount it on your truck. Tastfull rodstorattions are bringing more money these days than restorations, so it's a flip of a coin. What I would do in your case if I liked the late model bed is to mount it on my truck and save the origanal in case I ever changed my mind. Or if the day comes back around where a restoration brings more mone than a rodstoration, you can change it back. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

If you do install the late model bed think about shaving the back step off, makes it look much smoother. There was a post on this you might want to search for this thread. Here is a pic of the truck bed from CCT. There is a company that sells the kit for this change.

I prefer the stock beds...esp a short/step. But that's me. I feel the late model bed just doesn't look right. But again...that's lust my view of it.
If you do install this late model bed, see if you can't get someone (or you if you knoe how) to make the wheel openings round instead of squared off. If you look at the pic I have here it showes what I'm talking about.
Again, it's all up to you, its your ride and some people will be against your decision...which ever one you make.

Longhorn is right, most people who are against the late model bed are against it because of the wheel opening. I have asked if there was a kit out there to fix this problem but with no answer.
