Question 6X9 Speaker Box Ideas?

I currently have a pair of 6x9 alpine speakers in 6x9 speaker boxes. For some odd reason the seat I have now doesn't allow them to fit lying on their side, and my old seat did. They're both stock 67-72 chevy truck seats--who knows?, but anyway my current seat doesn't have enough room. What ideas do you all have, as I refuse to cut the truck in any way, and I have a behind the seat gas tank. I really didn't want to mess with the speaker boxes either because they're nicely carpeted. Currently I just have them face up right on front of the seat. They sound great there, but they can be bothersome to your feet. Thanks in advance to any and all advice.

stick one in the cubby with the jack. then the other ?, maybe infront of the seat in the center, it'll throw the stereo off a little but, there are just not many options.

umm what i did was went to the junkyard and got some back seat speaker boxes out of a like 1988 oldsomobile ninety-eight or somethin like that, 4 door car, and they fit under the seat, you have to unbolt the front of the seat so you do'nt damage the speakers but they fit under, once you get over the hump.

Also, here is a link to a great set-up in a K5 by ColoradoK5 board member Greg72. I know that things are a little different, but some good ideas that may work in a truck too. http://www.norcalbigdawgs.net/Gallery/album26
