2.5/4 ECE drop exhaust question

With the ECE 2.5/4 drop kit will I have clearance to run my exhaust under the truck or do I need to run it through the frame. I do not want to go through unless it is really necessary. I do not want to drag my exhaust every time I go over a speed bump or railroad track either.

I have asked the same question. You would probably have better luck in the suspension section.

Re: 2.5/4 ECE drop exhaust question

I don't believe that a 2.5/4 drop would be low enough to cause to many serious issues.... your best option would be to call out to ECE and speak with Stan or any of the other guys there. They are filled with a ton of knowledge on the 67-72 trucks.

Re: 2.5/4 ECE drop exhaust question

I am running thier 4/6 drop, and I don't have my exhaust running through the frame. I did use sanderson shorties, and have an H pipe, and exits at a 45 behind the rear tires....

I bottom out on my front a-arms but I have yet to hit the exhaust..

You'll be fine. I have a 4/6 drop with an X pipe and haven't dragged it yet.

Re: 2.5/4 ECE drop exhaust question

Thanks all for the info. I did call ECE this morning. I was also advised to use short headers and tuck the pipes up tight and there would be no problems with clearance. I also asked about shock relocaters. ECE said that the truck would run down the road just fine but the ride would be degraded. I plan to order the relocaters today. I did not want to run my pipes through the frame since I would have to come out the sides anyway or go under the rear axle tubes due to my FUELCELLGUY rear tank.
I am trying to get everything off my frame that will not be used and all holes required drilled before powercoating. I will post another trhread on that issue.

Re: 2.5/4 ECE drop exhaust question

Currently I have a 3/5 spring drop using shorty headers and tucked tight to the frame. Here are a few pics to give you an idea of clearance...

Re: 2.5/4 ECE drop exhaust question

Here's a shot of mine - I used Hedman Long Tube headers for better performance, and I like having the headers somewhat visible... I have the 2x4 inch drop from early classic...

Re: 2.5/4 ECE drop exhaust question

This is the way I use to have it on my 68. The only time it ever hit was when I took a speed bump waaay too fast.

Glad to hear that ECE was able to help you out. And that's why I'm ordering a ton of parts from them... excellent customer service!

Re: 2.5/4 ECE drop exhaust question

You will be fine with a 2.5/4" drop and the exhaust not being tucked. ECE is great!
