Grill Setup

I just bought a clean 86 gmc 2wd shortbed. I was looking in an old trucking magazine and noticed a truck like mine with a 91 suburban ft grill, light and such. I was just wondering if anyone knows where You can buy this set up or if anyone has one used?

Let me know

thanks

Shawn

LMC also has the parts necessary. You can always check your local salvage yard for some 89-91 Suburbans too.

Good luck!

I am also doing this swap too, I have ordered all the stuff except the radiator support and they should be in Tuesday according to the fed ex shipment tracker. The radiator support will be prob be your biggest problem cause it was mine. i looked around the net and found some ne aftermarket ones but was gonna have to pay freight which was gonna cost me 250$ or more total. so I went around town and hit up 4 or 5 bodyshops and not one of them had a supplier that they could get me the support from, they said they could get it from somewhere else but that i would have to payt he freight on it, I think they were just b.s.'n me trying to put a few bucks in their pocket or somethin. i even called every junkyard within 100 miles and couldn't even find one. so i said the hell with it, if i'm gonna have to pay over 250$ to get one I'll just go ahead and get A GM one and thats what i did for 330 somthing $. but by the time i get throught i'll have a little over 700 bucks in i think. any way gchemist has good parts list with part numbers you can use on his site http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/
If you have any more questions or help let me know. I'll prob do the swap next weekend i think.

For an '82? No problem. I did it to my '83

Thanks for the reference CT-Truckster.
Oh I saw an entire front end clip recently on www.ebaymotors.com. It may still be there too.
For some close up pics go here.

CT,
The mirrors a cheap plastic set from Pepboys. The entire head pivots. I really hate that for the passenger side. It literally points out so I can use it. I really don't use it, but I do use the small blind spot mirror I have mounted on the mirrors. I will eventually replace them with a set off a Monte Carlo SS. The same type found on C-4 Vettes. Here is better picture.

Thumbs up

Sevans327,

I wanted to do the same thing to my 85 and called around, price for new parts were between $650-$850 but I just saw a whole front end off of an 90 or 91 for $450 on ebay. It looked pretty good.

I visited a wrecking yard today. I walked up to a 90 suburban that was really picked over. Went to the front and there was the grill lights and support. I asked the guy how much and he sold it to me for 125.00. I paid him the cash and ran with it. The only thing i'll need to buy is a gmc grill for it. I think I did ok. Also talked him into giving me the instrument cluster for free. I need it for the check engine light of the lt1.

Thanks for you responses

Shawn
