Locking hubs
Well winter has arrived and will be here for the next 6 months.
Is there any problem with locking my front hubs on now and leaving them locked all winter? I would mainly drive in 2wd and just throw the shifter into 4hi when I need to.

I've done it, your front axle gears will be turning all the time and you might notice a mileage decrease.

Only problem, is it will use more gas, and put wear and tear on a lot of parts for nothing. But won't hurt anything as long as you remember to put the transfer case in 2 wd on solid ground.

You could wait for those really crappy days and then lock them out... If it's dry out then I wouldn't for now..

I just lock them when it looks like snow. And then I leave them locked until I remember to unlock them.

I've heard it is a good idea to lock them out periodically to keep every thing lubed, but not sure how well it works. I cant imanagine it would be that harsh on anything to leave them locked for the winter. My blazer had lock-o-matic hubs in it when I got it and they could be left unlocked and still work in 4-hi. You only had to lock them out if towing or using 4-low. My blazer gets around in the snow just fine in 2 wheel drive for the most part. I really haven't needed 4x4 for any normal street driving, but have used it just for fun.

that's true, probably doesn't hurt to exercise the U-joints and rotate the diff in oil every once in awhile...
