Shifter linkage problem TH350

Hi!
I have a really strange problem, i already tried the search button on the forum several times but couldn't find anything usefull... (other than the paintings i got now :P)

I got a 1971 Suburban with a 350 engine, TH350 tranny.

Now the shifting fork at the tranny side sort of "falls out'.
I found some paintings someone made :P so i added them.

Basicly the thing where it says "piece that you have" is falling out.
When i'm leaving, pedal to the metal style :P at the traffic light it does it.
Maybe it also does it when i'm just cruising but i noticed when i'm leaving pedal to the metal it's instantly gone :P

Does any of you have had this before?
The spring and washers and stuff is already in place so i really don't know where to search for the problem?
Thanks in advance!

Martijn

Re: Shifter linkage problem TH350

By any chance have you checked your left front motor mount? If your engine is rolling over to the right this problem can occur.
With the hood up put the truck into drive with your left foot on the brake and push down on the gas pedal with your right foot. This will put a torque load on the motor mount on the left side. If the engine rises up too much then the motor mount has broken.
It helps if you have someone standing to the left side of the truck while doing this watching the motor mount. You or your helper will see the engine rise off the of the mount.
Also make sure that you have plenty of room in front of you if something should happen like your foot slipping off of the brake pedal. ( Don't ask me how I know this but a work bench paid the price. )

Yep, sounds like a motor mount. If so, change them both while you are at it

Re: Shifter linkage problem TH350

Hi guys!
Thanks for the help!
It was indeed the left motormount.
Ordered one today and should be here tomorrow
Till then i have a piece of rope to hold it together and just drive carefully but it's no problem really
I just ordered the left one because i don't think the right one has really much stress on it because the motor is turning from driver point of view clockwise.

Also my budget is taking a big hit at the moment :P
In the last 2 or 3 months i have renewed:

Brakes (front and rear)
Brake cilinder (1 at the rear, otherone was already renewed by the previous owner and i really don't know why i didn't do two but anyway...)
Alternator

and probably some stuff that i'm forgetting :P
Project for next saturday: Valve seals (Hooray :P)

Tomorrow i'll do the motormount, thanks for the help guys and i will try to post some pics in the show your burban thread tonight!
I first have to do some homework for my school

Re: Shifter linkage problem TH350

I know your budget is tight, but if you are going to do one, you might as well do both. Remember, the other one is probably just as old, and while your left motor mount was broken, your right one was flexing and trying to keep the engine down and in place. That is very stressfull on the mount. I would definitely reconsider only doing one, it only takes 30 minutes longer to do the other, then you know they are finished. Just my .02
