We repaired a sender unit on a 63 F*&%D the other day, after we had dismantled it, we inspected it for damage or wear and it looked fine, did a test on it and nothing, as a last ditch desperation thing we buffed the pickup with 1000 grit paper and eureka!! A working fuel gauge.
