what trans for six cylinder?

Ok guys I've got both a 250 and a 292 now so I have decited to put the 250 in my 70 shortbed and the 292 in my 72 suburban and I'm wondering best 5 speed manuel trans to use. The sub already has an early trans from a v8 monza because of the buildup previsily mentioned in earlier thread about fuel injection from 4.3. Anyway now I want to put a 5 speed in my short bed and was wondering best trans to use. Also have excess to a 5 speed from an astro van which uses a different bolt pattern . Has any one used this trans ? Could you guys send pics of your installs? Thanks alot in advance!

Re: what trans for six cylinder?

There's a writeup I just put up in the 'engine' forum about this. As far as the Astro van bolt pattern being different- I don't think it is. However, I've been wrong before but if it's a 4.3 engine it should bolt right up with some input shaft mods. I'm still working on the writeup but remind me and I'll explain that stuff too.
