New location for spare tire

I'm thinking about moving the gas tank from the cab to under the bed. Any ideas of where to put the spare tire? I thought about putting where the gas tank was but seems like it would be a pain to get out if ever needed.

Re: New location for spare tire

I am using one of those mini spares on my truck. It fits under the seat with an all-thread hook rod securing it to a conduit loop mounted to the floor. The seat I installed provides just enough clearance to get it in and out.

Re: New location for spare tire

I'm going to have a low shallow tool box in the front of the bed to hold my HiLIft jack, etc. It will be off the bed floor so I can slide stuff under it. I plan on having a tire mount on the top of the lid for the spare. My bed interior is not for show, just rhino coating and a color match solid bed cap to enclose it.

Re: New location for spare tire

Some of the trucks mounted them on the side of the bed. They even have fenders designed to fit them there if your bed is short. Also, here's my seat from Glide Engineering with a rear/floor access...

I'm putting my subwoofers behind the seat, and a lock box under the seat for my handgun(maybe some emergency tools).

If you decide to try your hand at modifying the side fender, here's a great how-to:

Re: New location for spare tire

Thanks for all the great input! I am thinking about using a 68 frame in place of the original so that would solve the conflict with the spare tire and fuel tank.

I plan to mount mine there also, I found a space saver spare that fits so it will take up less room. i plan to put a custom cover over the tire

That sounds like about the best idea. One suggestion, make sure that the space saver will work on both ends of the truck. I kept the one that came in my dad's 84 Delta 88 Olds and it has worked to get me home a couple of times.
It will fit behind my seat but it is a job to get it in and out.
