Shift Indicators for Overdrive.....

I am currently in the process of installing a 700R4 in my '63. I'm trying to decide what shifter to run....

I thought about the Lokar tranny mounted shifter....the SUPER tall one...think that would be cool.

However, it would also be nice to keep the floor open. My kids are growing, and their legs are getting longer

Rather than run a van column, I would rather use a stock auto column.

Just wondering if anyone knows if they make a replacement indicator for our trucks that would have overdrive shift points ?? PRND321

Also, do the truck columns have shift detents, or does it rely on the detents in the tranny ??

My buddy at the speed shop knows they make them for Camaros, Impalas, etc. but not sure on the trucks.

Honestly, never seen an auto column up close, but I think they are similar to an Impala...

Anyone have some info ??

LAter

Re: Shift Indicators for Overdrive.....

I used a 72 auto column and GMC Pauls has the correct indicator for the 700 r4. I just had'nt ordered mine yet. The 72 column relys on the tranny detents. It works good for my 61 4x4.

Re: Shift Indicators for Overdrive.....

Sweet !!!

Got that part covered....now I just need a column !!

Says it's for 47-87...so I guess I could get a column from LILRED66...and be done with it.

Wonder if the 60-66 columns are detent free like the 72 mentioned above ??

Re: Shift Indicators for Overdrive.....

We recently installed a factory automatic column out of a '62 c10 in my womans '65. There are no clicks in the column, it relies on the clicks in the tranny.

Re: Shift Indicators for Overdrive.....

Thanks for the info.....

Now, from the look of Joe231 shot of his auto column (from his build) and the picture of short step column above...it looks like that indicator will screw into either column.....They look like the same distance....should I think otherwise ??

If so, thinking about purchasing a column from LILRED66....says he has a nice one with custom-cab wheel....

Re: Shift Indicators for Overdrive.....

My original '63/Powerglide combo DOES have the detents in the column, so they were around at some point. I'll have to address this for my upcoming 700 transplant.
