Tallest skinniest tire for 8x15 inch rim

I have a stock height 4x4 and I like the look of tall thin tires. As the post says, I need to know what tall / thin tires are made for a 15 inch rim. I now have 31 inch tires that are , I believe, 10.5 inches wide. I like the height but not the width. Some of the 16 inchers look great to me but the 15 inch selection leaves a little to be desired. Thoughts?

Re: Tallest skinniest tire for 8x15 inch rim

theres a whole lot of options tire wise.... Super swamper LTBs are designed to be tall and thin..

are you leaving the truck stock? or are you lifting it..

stock i think you will be stuck somewhere around a 32"inch tall by a 9-10.5 (9 is kinda pushing it on a 8 inch rim tho)

Re: Tallest skinniest tire for 8x15 inch rim

Interco has a
34/9.50-15LT Bias ply 33.80" diameter
9.50"section width
8" tread width

GM used to offer 16" wheels as an option for 6 lug half tons. Maybe locate a set of them for more tire options. Not much help from pic but, I like the 255/85-16's on my 86 with no lift. The rims are 6.75 wide.

Re: Tallest skinniest tire for 8x15 inch rim

I should modify my post to say I need to stuff them under stock height (no lift planned. This is an old pic of my truck. Like I said I like the tallness of it but not the width.

38/11/15 TSL boggers.I had a set of the 34/9/16 TSL's one time and they worked good.

EDIT,sorry I missed the stock height part.

Re: Tallest skinniest tire for 8x15 inch rim

Mine is stock in this pic with HD front 1/2ton springs (stock) and 33x10.5x15 BFG AT's on 8x15 Mickey Thompson Classic II's.

The pics with the new bed have a 1.5" add-a-leaf and no weight on the truck...

I think they work great and like them... no rubbing.

Re: Tallest skinniest tire for 8x15 inch rim

I have some 70's chevy dogdish hubcaps on it right now. I will get you a picture in the next day or two. I think the rims were around $90 a piece, but I will have to dig around to find out. If my local dealer can get them, any dealer should be able too ( I live in the boonies ). I will post some pics later.

Re: Tallest skinniest tire for 8x15 inch rim

The 34 /9.50 go on a 6 or 7" rim. I think 8" is too wide. With no lift and 8" rims, i would go with a 33 10.50. (they recomend a 7" for this size, but a 8" would do.)

Here are some quick pictures. The rims don't have a maker on them, and there is no part number.

Re: Tallest skinniest tire for 8x15 inch rim

In 15s I`d say there are BFG M/Ts in 9.50/33.In 16" you can go to BFG M/T 255/85s.I`m not sure if Maxxis still makes Q78 Buckshot Mudders.
Here`s my`92 with 255/85s on newer trucks with stock rims.I can only find them in BFG M/Ts,now:

Tim, The Q-78-15 is a 36" tall tire. I think you mean a P-78-15. That is a 33" 10.50 /15. Gateway/Buckshot still makes them. Thats what i run on the race truck. But they are biasply and dont have very good road manners.

O K I C.We used to run 9.00-16s.I think they were 34".You "could" run w/no lift w/stock wheels and taking it easy.My unlifted trucks have always had some sort of spring work and would sit up an inch or two, plus not flex as much.

Re: Tallest skinniest tire for 8x15 inch rim

So how careful do you think I would have be running a 33" tire at say 10 or so inches of width at bone stock height.

That's what mine is and although I haven't taken it our yet, I would think that only in turns on a landing you would encounter any rubbing. I tried wider rims but they would have rubbed. and 12.5's would more than likely rub easily...

If you saw issues you could easily install an add-a-leaf or zero rate leaf to assist...

That should be fine.I have 12.50/33s on 8.25" wide wheels mounted on my unlifted`72 K3500.It`s even lower than stock and they clear for normal driving.
