Where Can I hide the Junk?
I started this project over 2 years ago and my problem is I am never satisfied. (danm I must be part woman) I started off with just a 350 crate engine w/4Barel and now I have changed to this mess. I have a lot of wire I need to hide including a comfuser, Any suggestions?

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
Looks like more snakes than Indy ran into in one of those movies.
All I can say is make them neat and orderly to begin with and then figure how to hide them. Maybe make a cover with the same general shape as the firewall to go over the wires across the top of the firewall and paint it to match the truck. Or a raised aluminum panel that is brushed or polished to look more like a decoration than a functional piece to conceal the wiring |

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
1st off, Nice looking Project...........
Are u Using aftermarket or Factory Harness? If it's Factory u can eliminate some of the unneeded wiring to reduce the Bulk, I Have seen People use the Loom's to Cover up wiring for a Cleaner Look. Are Your Wire's needed for the Puter long enough that you might get it under the Seat, If Not you Might modify the Glovebox & Put it in There...... Sorry Can't offer any Solid Answer's for You, Just wanted to Comment that it Look's like you are Doing a Great Job & Look Forward to seeing More of your Project. Rick

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
I probably have as many wires, even though mine is a carbed 327 with no factory air or heat.
1. pick a color that compliments or really stands out, and buy a corrugated wire loom kit 2. the more wires you can run together in a larger loom the better. the BIG red corrugated in this pic probably has 10 wires in it, minimum. maybe options: i ran some wires under the lip of the outer fender from the front of the bay to the firewall. this is hiding electric water pump, electric fans with adjustable temp sensors, an electric heater in the cab, the MSD ignition and coil, the electric choke wire, the remote starter wires... etc... you can see where i sort of had all the wires come and go from the same few places on the firewall, near the MSD box... i'd say that if you have a computer under the hood that you CANT hide... make it stand out.. like a feature. p.s. i also lost my glove box because of my aftermarket heater, battery disconnect, and remote starter... so theres a lot on the interior of my firewall too

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
How about drilling a hole, or 2, right behind the distributor. Then run all wiring through a couple grommets. Then everything can be hooked up and hidden under the dash.

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
or maybe a gromet next to your brake booster, and another on the other side of the bay... so you could duck those two big wires under the dash (the ones going left to right on your firewall)

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
When I ran TPI in my truck, I had installed a grommet into the firewall right behind the distributor off to the passenger side of the truck, and routed all of my wires through it.
Made my EFI wiring nearly invisible, the only stuff that stuck out was the factory wiring that runs under the brake booster to the junction block on the firewall.

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
Get it off of the firewall. Remove everything that you can and route your wires down low. Have the harness that goes to the motor come up the tranny tunnel. Wires that go to the front clip can hide inside the fenders.

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
I don't mean any disrespect, but this is the best way to draw attention to your wiring. DO NOT use bright colored loom unless you want it to scream "LOOK AT ME".
If you want to a clean look use a color that will blend in the best or it will look like a bowl of neon colored spaghetti.

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
I tried very hard to keep this project as simple as possible but the female side of me kept saying "add more! add more!". So cruise, tilt, AC, Am/Fm, Disc brakes front and rear, you get the picture, I am still changing things. Good news is that once this is done, it just needs finished painted. I appreciate all your friendly advise but what I think I will do is add length tothe 54 computer wires and run it down the frame to under the seat. The only thing I will loose is some space for the McDonalds wrappers and FF containers. A sacrifice I am willing to make. I will share more pictures as I continue as I have been lacking in that field. Thanx and keep the good comments coming.

Re: Where Can I hide the Junk?
That's what I did. I even ran my positive battery cable through the right fender, under the heater box, then over to the starter. Put it in some black split loom and it's nearly invisible. I used black split loom on my whole harness. Looks "factory" and the black stuff melts right into the engine compartment.
Ran all my plug wires down and under, then up the back side of the engine. They're pretty much hidden too. |
