WIW? - '78 Crew Cab: Pics Inside
So my friend bought a '78 crew cab & has now decided that because it needs a little work, he doesn't want to be bothered with it anymore. So he sold the 454/TH400 out of it. It has 78k on the clock and he bought it from the original owner - who gave him all the paperwork on the truck, including the original sales reciept. Interior is in decent shape, the seats are clean with no rips, the dash has several cracks in it though.
it is in fairly decent shape, but does need some work. The area of most concern to me is the upper door jamb on the drivers side rear. It has started to rot (not sure if water is getting into the roof cavity, or if there were leaves/dirt stuck up there). There is a little bit of rot on the driver's side inner rocker/cab support that the Original Owner "fixed" with expandable foam. There is also some rot on the lower rear bedsides right behind the tire, but the wheel arches are perfect & the bed floor is perfect - so that is a HUGE plus in the body work department. I HATE rotted wheel arches, seems you can never get them to look "factory" again. I kinda like the early crew cabs, and it is a nice truck, drives and rides super nice & quite. I would just put a small block back in it & I have another TH400 in stock. I don't need any more projects, but I hate to see it get parted out and the rest get crushed. I think I can get it for less than $500 WITHOUT the wheels & tires. Is it worth it or? I know that I would like to have the 14bolt FF rear axle with 3.73gears to go with a D60 Front that I have - eventually want to have them in a '67-'72 Pickup. I guess I just hate to see a decent truck go.

that cab looks pretty gruesome, but since it is a specialty truck, may be worth fixing -- but thats up to you
If it was a regular cab truck -- some of that rust would make me run the other way

me personnally? if you need the rear, it's worth 300 otherwise, you'd need to love it to tackle it

D60 (for some use in the future). And I like the fact that the rear has 3.73 gears - good all around 4x4 gear. So I would just have to put a set of gears in the 60 and have a good set of 1ton 4x4 axles. I think I can get the whole truck for $300. And I could just part out the rest - the front fenders and all the doors are still good on the truck.

If you get it and decide to part it out I am interested in the headliner and some interior trim parts

Maybe just do a very cheap paint job to make it one color and use it for a work truck or tow vehicle ? Would be handy for things you don't wanna do with your nice truck. Just build it up over time with spare parts you already have or you found for a bargain to keep cost down.

i do it, those dont come around often, a little rust, but like pyrotechnic said, just por15 it and fix when you get around to it, when those are done right though, those are some sharp looking trucks
