New guy with questions
I've been watching this site for some time and it seems to get a lot of usage with some really good images and input from members. I've been into the 67-72 chevys since my first one in 1985 (68 1/2ton 2wd shorty), it's been about 12 trucks later and I just picked up a 71 3/4ton 4x4 that is plane jane- no side chrome and no power steering. I'm installing power steering and an updated seat and I am trying to fix the front driveline. the u-joints are shot and I think the ball and spring in the yoke is worn badly too. My real ? is this. Does anyone know if and where I can get a rebuild kit for my front driveline?
Thanks, I hope to get some photos posted soon. |

Re: New guy with questions
Welcome to the site.
You can get these parts @ NAPA auto parts. These are all Spicer part numbers: Youll need 2 #5-278X ujoint kits, 1 #2-26-297 center yoke and 1 #211544X socket yoke to rebuild CV head. 1 #5-153X ujoint for other end of drive shaft. Last edited by Cyclone; 11-15-2008 at 04:50 PM. |

Re: New guy with questions
Wow! Thanks for the quick and professional reply Cyclone. I'll check these parts on monday.
Thanks for the welcome Shaneschevys. Is that 69 panel a factory truck? I have never seen one before. That is way cool! I just found a power steering pump and gearbox for my truck and I bought a 60/40 split bench seat out of a 95 chev. I took the old seat out and the original rubber floor mat, it was trashed, I found the floor pans to be rusted through, bummer. I'm running out of daylight today and have a lot I want to do to the truck. Never enough time. |

Re: New guy with questions
Floormat removal revealed rust through in floor pan. Any ideas on floor and door patch panels, also looking for a new floor covering. Any ideas besides LMC? Thanks for the help everyone.
I feel complete again now that I have an old truck in the driveway.(some kind of sickness I guess). Here's the big question. Now that I am back into the old truck scene I want to finish an idea I've had brewing since 1985 when I had my first rig (68 SWB). I want to build a 67 (no side markers, sloped hood etc.) shorty with a built 292 straight 6. Now I know I may be putting the cart before the horse here but I just found a 292 locally for $40. Now I just need the 67. My question is this. Does anyone have info on rebuilding these old chevy 6 bangers and how to get more power out of them? Performance parts? Thanks for the good advice so far. |
