Two piece driveshaft

Hey,I just bought a donor for the axle on my suburban. And it had a two piece axle with a carrier bearing in the middle.I didn't know that they did that sort of thing with these size trucks. Anyone seen something like this? Its on a 85 C20. I believe it was a camper special. Will this cause any problems with swapping the 14 bolt to my suburban?

Re: Two piece driveshaft

The 2 piece was commonly used on LWB trucks or where the axle would see a lot of articulation. My l6 3ott 3/4 ton has one, my 1/2 tons do not.

Re: Two piece driveshaft

Light duty half tons got one piece, heavy duty half tons got two piece, no matter what wheelbase or transmission.

did you read that or did someone tell you? iv'e been researching for a answer on this off and on for a long time.and i'm not disputing your information, because it make's more sense then anything else iv'e heard or read.but,it doesn't apply to my truck my vin decode's to regular half ton not a heavy, and it has a 2 piece drive shaft.i owned a 77 longbed with a 2 piece that was also a standard half.go figure.

Re: Two piece driveshaft

I don't know where Pyrotechnic got it, but that is an accurate statement.

Dang it chris i figured if anybody knew it would be you.
not trying to ruffle your feather's.but that isn't an "accurate statement".between square 84 and myself.3 example's were given that don't jive with the statement (but i wished they did).on my 79 it was a diesel from the factory and decode's as a regular half.my 77 was untouched as was square84's.I'm thinkin the mystery lives on.

Re: Two piece driveshaft

I don't know about diesels, but every HD 1/2T I have ever seen had 2 piece. (short beds). I wouldn't consider a diesel a HD though, but... Just speaking of experience. I don't have documentation to back it up. KIILEW would probably know.
