87 pickup wiring question
i have a 1987 silverado that the wiring went up in smoke i made it home with the truck thankfully but my wiring went up in smoke from the radio to the fuse panel. because of a bad headlight switch. i'm just trying to figure out what to do with the truck. i'm weighing my options. no yard around here has a 87 pickup tbi harness and it too bad to just repair. so here what is could do..
1) part the truck and install my motor and trans in my 71 super cheyenne. 2) buy a new harness if that is even possible??? what am i to do??? here is a pic of the truck.. |

Re: 87 pickup wiring question
Have you checked with Brothers Trucks, LMC or Classic Industries? Painless wiring is a possibility too. You might check with board member CaptKaos, Chris may be able to help you too... he's a vendor on this board.
Is it so bad that you can't redo it manually? Ken

Re: 87 pickup wiring question
that truck is too pretty to just get rid of id keep looking for a harness.. and you couldnt sell parts here without being a suscribing member, so is it even worth trying to part it on CL or something?

Re: 87 pickup wiring question
I would think a day in a salvage yard would yield a good harness from one end to the other. Heck you might even buy a whole truck for a nickel and get it. They made tons of these trucks and there has to be one all used up that you can find...

Re: 87 pickup wiring question
www.car-part.com. search by distance, locate a good priced harness and have it shipped to your door.

Re: 87 pickup wiring question
The same thing happened to me in an old Bronco I had. I was on a tight budget so I just replaced the burned parts of the wires. Everything worked out good.

Re: 87 pickup wiring question
If im reading and understanding your post correctly it's only the wiring from the radio to the fuse box that melted.
If thats all it is you should only need the complete radio circuit wiring and you should be able to get that from just about any truck right? |

Re: 87 pickup wiring question
that truck looks pretty nice from the outside pic, it would be a shame to part it out.. have tried eBay or Craigslist?? to see if anyone is parting a truck out in your arear.. or goto a local large wrecking yard and ask if they can put it on the locator to find one.

Re: 87 pickup wiring question
try painless industries...they have wiring harness and fuse block combinations that alls you have to to is trim the wires to fit...might cost around 200 to 300 bucks but you'll have all new wiring and besides...that truck is in WAY too good of shape to junk.
